Today, 6 November 2024, is National Stress Awareness Day. Take this day as an opportunity to think about the effects of stress, physically and mentally, as well as how we can manage feelings of stress.
Stress is our body’s response to pressure that manifests itself in many different ways. It’s the feeling of being overwhelmed and finding it hard to cope emotionally or mentally. Taking time to identify the emotional and mental pressures in our lives and addressing them is a good way to understand and protect our mental health.
Some things to consider during National Stress Awareness Day could be:
- Reflect: look at how you deal with stress and if you are taking care of yourself and others
- Identify your stressors: what is causing you stress in your life
- Reduce your stress: try exercising, eating a balanced diet and develop your coping skills. Let go of things you cannot change
- Create a stress-aware workplace: workplaces can promote wellbeing by raising awareness and thus reduce the stigma around it
Should you be struggling with stress then speak with your General Practitioner. Your GP can provide a diagnosis, treatment and make a referral to another service if need be.
