Strathcarron Hospice, Denny

George Nicolson, along with their subcontracting team, are proud to have carried out further works to Strathcarron Hospice, Denny.

Works involved the upgrade of 4 no. patient rooms.  Joinery works encompassed the manufacturing and fitting of new bespoke nurses stations and wardrobes. Newly upholstered headboards to protect the wall finish at the bed area with new bedside cabinets were also being manufactured and fitted. A wooden laminate finish was installed to both sides of the existing doors.

Plumbing works included the stripping out of the existing wash hand basins and redundant pipework. New clinical wash-up areas were formed and new wash hand basins installed. Within 1 no. room, the flooring was stripped out to alter drainage to accommodate a new walk-in wet shower area.

The redundant power and lighting were made safe.  New wall lights, downlights (which can be staff controlled to achieve mood setting) and lamps were installed throughout. Cabling for the nurse call point and televisions were installed along with new illuminated mirrors.

The existing carpet flooring was stripped and replaced with new vinyl safety flooring to all rooms.

Whilst protecting the oxygen and medical vacuums within their locations, decoration works were completed to ceilings, cornices and walls with moisture resistant paint being applied to the en-suites.  The existing painted timbers and radiators were decorated with low odour products whilst wallcovering was hung to various walls.

Designed by Burns Design, Glasgow, the rooms were transformed to give a softer feel for the patients whilst having all the required clinical elements.

The works were carried out whilst the hospice remained fully functioning and the programme was tailored to minimise disturbance to the working of the hospice.

Strathcarron Hospice, Denny provide specialist palliative care and expert end of life care for the people of Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth. They care for people with illnesses that cannot be cured including cancer, lung, heart or kidney failure and a range of non-malignant and neurological diseases. They are also actively involved in research and education in palliative care. In addition, they promote and influence the delivery of palliative care locally and beyond.

George Nicolson are pleased to share with you a testimonial from staff and patients:

“These upgrades to the patient rooms have made a huge difference. In a practical sense, the layout just makes sense, with so may clever design improvements. There is more space for families, enabling them to spend time and be comfortable together. There is also a privacy curtain so that family can remain in the room when the person is being treated by our nursing staff. Staff, patients and families have said the rooms have the ‘wow’ factor, are a ‘beautiful reflection of the Hospice’ and feel ‘homely and uplifting'”.
