Mental Health Awareness Week 2023

The beginning of this week marked Mental Health Awareness Week 2023.

George Nicolson strongly believe in the importance of Mental Health Awareness and Mental Health First Aid training throughout its workforce.

As from 2019, we have had a Mental Health Workplace Policy in place which covers the roles of our accredited 9 Mental Health First Aiders, confidentiality, our responsibilities as an employer, expectations of all employees together with information and contact details for support.

The company is pleased that 14 members of staff previously grasped the opportunity to undertake an online Mental Health Awareness course through Training First Safety Ltd. This short course explained the difference between mental health and mental illness. It covered the symptoms of a number of the most common mental illnesses so they will know what to look out for or what to expect if they are working with someone with one of these conditions. As well as providing some practical advice on how you can work effectively with those affected by these conditions. For more information on this course, please visit: https://trainingfirstsafety.co.uk/.

Earlier this year, all our 7 apprentices accepted the invitation of attending an inhouse Mental Health Awareness course. Arranged through St Andrews First Aid, the course was informative and beneficial to our young people. The course encompassed open discussions on indentifying conditions, providing advice, how to start a conversation, stress etc. Should you wish more information on this course or details of the Mental Health First Aid courses available, please visit: https://www.firstaid.org.uk/.

The company will continue to support all our employees and focus on the importance of mental health in the workplace. Through doing this, we hope to reduce the stigma around mental health and promote it in a more positive light.
