George Nicolson were pleased to be awarded the decoration works to Cupar Burgh Chambers by John Smart and Sons (Kirkcaldy) Ltd.
Fife Historic Buildings Trust completed the restoration of the Cupar Burgh Chambers in 2018. By converting this long vacant and at risk Grade B listed building, an important local landmark has been saved and given a new lease of life, allowing visitors from across the world to come and stay in the historic town centre of Cupar.
This was a restoration project externally and internally to return the building to its former state. The external works were a full redecoration of all previously painted areas and required several former window recesses to have trompe-l’oeil carried out to create the image of the exterior as it once must have been. The interior was also brought back to life with a very earthy traditional Georgian colour scheme along with wood graining.
The preparation work that went into this project is really what made the finished product look so impressive.
Cupar Burgh Chambers is now a comfortable and stylish two bedroom self-catering apartment. Perfect for family get-togethers, golf breaks in St Andrews, exploring the Kingdom of Fife and for visiting a beautiful Scottish city, whether it be Dundee or Edinburgh. Guests are located in the centre of Cupar with direct access to a wide variety of independent shops in town as well as a short walking distance to the beautiful Cart Haugh Park. The nearby railway station provides easy rail access to Edinburgh and Dundee. Cupar is ideally located a short 15 minute drive to St Andrews, the home of golf; however there are 45 golf courses throughout Fife, so lots of opportunities to visit different towns and villages, if golfing is your interest.
Cupar Burgh Chambers has also now received a Conservation Commendation in the AABC Civic Trust Awards 2019.
